Christmas markets in Prague

The largest Christmas markets in the Czech Republic are held in Prague. You can visit pretty wooden chalets, where you can buy Christmas decorations, small gifts crafts and snacks. Christmas market on the Old Town Square

The most visited Christmas market is the one, which takes place on the Old Town Square. It traditionally begins with the ceremonial lighting of the Christmas tree. Every year, you can visit the dozens of stalls, where you can buy gifts, decoration, porcelain, but also snacks, typical pastry called “Trdelnik”, gingerbread and other candy. The Christmas market is a real treat for anyone feeling the spirit of the winter season. This Christmas market is also a cultural event for adults and children. Wooden chalets will be open every day from 10 am to 10 pm. Stalls selling refreshment may be open until midnight.

This Christmas market can be found on the picturesque St. George's square, where you will see not only the monumental Cathedral of St. Vitus, but also Basilica of St. George with magnificent baroque facade or less famous church of All Saints. Christmas market on the Wenceslas Square

There is also beautiful Christmas tree on this square, under which you can listen the Czech Christmas carols. You will also find handmade gifts and pretty confectionery here.

Christmas market on the Namesti Miru (the Peace Square)

Christmas with a romantic atmosphere can be experienced on the Namesti Miru, which is mostly visited by locals. This Christmas market offers a selection of great mulled wine produced in the best vineyards of the Czech Republic. Don’t forget to taste delicious pastry or to look at handmade products, such as handmade soaps, jewelry, wooden toys, ceramic ornaments, scarves. This Christmas market is also unique because of its location. It is held under the impressive neo-Gothic church of St. Ludmila and giant Christmas tree next to the Christmas crib.

If you want to enjoy Christmas atmosphere a little more privately, then go to market on the Republic Square that is not so busy and crowded as the other larger markets. A selection of traditional Christmas food and also typical Prague souvenirs can be found here. This Christmas market is definitely worth a visit, especially when the famous Municipal House and Gothic Powder Tower, which are considered to be unique architectural monuments, are located nearby.

Small but family-friendly Christmas market, where you can buy punch or mulled wine to warm up, is located near the metro station I. P. Pavlova. Come to buy Advent wreaths, candles, toys, Christmas decorations and many other handicrafts. Make sure to try traditional “trdelnik”, Moravian cakes or typical Czech gingerbread with mulled wine or hot chocolate.
